There are over 3000 Americans killed in home fires each year and another 2000 severely injured. A room in a building on fire can reach over 300 degrees in a few minutes, even if the fire is not in that room. The building will become a giant oven. You have very little time in a fire. Only seconds to get out. The heat, fumes and gases are deadly. In a night-time fire, the first thing to go will be your electric. You will be in complete darkness. A military grade yellow light stick is included with each kit. It is easily activated and will give you plenty of light to put on your FireEscape EDS harness and escape. A 12 feet Anchor Line and Steel Carabineer are also included. Instructions show how to attach and set up the FireEscape EDS in advance of an emergency in your bedroom or office. It will be ready for instant use when needed.
To determine the line length you need, multiply the number of floors you will need to descend by 12. This calculation uses the distance between floors as 12 feet. This distance may be less for your building, but you always want more line than is needed. Distance is measured from the window or door you will be escaping out of to the ground. A 12 foot Anchor Line is included in the kit. If you need more line from your anchor point to your escape window or door, make sure you take that extra length needed into account. Anchor points can be metal bed frames, large dressers, inside the room doors, and walls. An anchor may be anything that will support your weight and you cannot pull out your escape window or door. Wall and floor eye bolts can be used for anchors if properly attached by a professional carpenter. Remember, the FireEscape EDS is only to be used if your life is in danger and you may not survive if you stay. Improper use of the FireEscape EDS can cause serious injury or death.

A Hand Brake on the FireEscape EDS Harness will allow you to slow or stop yourself all the way to the ground. The Patented EDS Rack that the line goes through, will already cause a slowed descent.
The FireEscape EDS Harness uses Samson Tech 12, 1/4" Line that is 8,200 lb. tensile strength. The line is made of Aramid Fiber similar to Kevlar. This line is light weight, soft, cut/heat resistant, and super strong. Dr. Wood's US Patented EDS Rack, US Patent #D684,845, and Samson Tech 12, 1/4" Line have been tested together and passed by Underwriters Laboratory testing facility in Research Triangle Park, NC. to ANSI/ASSP Z359.4-2013 Descent Devices - Energy and Capacity, Static Strength, Dynamic Strength, and Rope Breaking Strength Tests.
